Free Legal Information Fairs
Around New York City
Will Mark National Law
Day (May 1 st)
The Legal Referral Service of the Association
of the Bar of the City of New York and the New
York County Lawyers’ Association will hold
a series of free legal information fairs the
first week of May, in observance of National
Law Day.
“The effective celebration of Law Day
in a city the size of ours requires a multi-pronged
outreach program,” said Allen Charne ,
director of the Legal Referral Service. “That
can best be achieved by extending Law Day into
Law Week for a series of events held from Monday,
May 2 nd, through Thursday, May 5 th.”
That week, volunteer attorneys will travel
to Queens , Brooklyn , Manhattan and the Bronx
. Each location will offer residents an opportunity
to consult with an experienced lawyer free of
charge. Community leaders and representatives
from local bar associations and other agencies
will also be on hand. Residents can obtain guidance
on many legal matters, including landlord/tenant
disputes, wills & trusts, workers compensation,
matrimonial, criminal law, immigration law, employment
discrimination, small business issues, victim
services, consumer law, and more.
Community Calendar
A
tent will go up outside local court houses the
day of each fair to provide residents with convenient
access to volunteer lawyers. For the benefit
of local residents who may be in need of free
legal advice, the Association is asking your
news organization to kindly post the following
